Evolution and adaptive potential of seasonal camouflage in stoats (Mustela erminea)Advisors: Dr. José Melo-Ferreira and Dr. João Pimenta
October 2021 – ongoing The short-tailed weasel (Mustela erminea) undergoes pelage molts from summer brown to winter white, allowing camouflage year-round, but climate change is reducing snow cover extent and challenging the value of this adaptation. In this PhD project, I will dissect the genetic basis of color polymorphisms, infer its evolutionary origin and adaptive value, and the scope for rapid adaptive responses to climate change, through population genomics, phylogenomics and ecological modeling.

Cação is Shark CampaignA national effort to map the elasmobranch meat trade in Brazil, in three areas: (1) molecular identification of the species traded, (2) identification of contaminants in the meat and (3) assessment of public knowledge about the consumption of sharks and rays. This is a project led by the NGO Sea Shepherd, see details in the official webpage of the project: https://seashepherd.org.br/cacao-e-tubarao/
